Orphenadrine is an
anticholinergic drug that is prescribed to treat all forms of Parkinson'sdisease. Although it is less effective than other drugs used in the treatment
of this disorder, it is often preferred because its adverse effects tend to be
less severe. Orphenadrine is particularly valuable for relieving the muscle
rigidity that often occurs with Parkinson's disease; it is less helpful for
improving slowing of movement that also commonly affects sufferers.

Orphenadrine
possesses significant muscle-relaxant properties. It produces this effect by
blocking nerve pathways responsible for muscle rigidity and spasm. Consequently,
it is prescribed for the relief of muscle spasm caused by muscle injury,
prolapsed ("slipped") disc, and whiplash injuries.
Tablets, liquid,
injection.
2-3 x daily.
150-400mg daily.

Keep in a closed
container in a cool, dry place out of the reach of children. Protect from
light.
Take as soon as
you remember. If your next dose is due within 2 hours, take a single dose now
and skip the next.
Do not stop the drug
without consulting your doctor; symptoms may recur.
Seek immediate
medical advice in all cases. Take emergency action if palpitations, fits, or
loss of consciousness occur.
The adverse
effects of orphenadrine are similar to those of other anticholinergic drugs.
The more common symptoms,
such as dryness of
the mouth and blurred vision, can often be overcome by an adjustment in dosage.

Anticholinergic
drugs The anticholinergic effects of orphenadrine are likely to be increased by
these drugs.
Confusion,
anxiety, and tremors may occur if these drugs are taken with orphenadrine.
Sedatives The
effects of all drugs that have a sedative effect on the central nervous system
are likely to be increased with orphenadrine.
